Indiana State University (ISU) is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University located in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana.

The history of the university traces back to the mid 19th century, with the opening of Indiana State Normal School, in 1865. In 1929, the school changed its name to the Indiana State Teachers College and in 1965, to Indiana State College. Later in 1965, the college received recognition as a university. ISU is a prominent public-co-educational university with a wide range of courses.

ISU is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and is governed by a board of trustees of nine members appointed by the governor of Indiana. It holds institutional membership in 10 major national associations.

Associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs are provided at this comprehensive institution of higher learning. The seven academic divisions include the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Performance, College of Nursing, College of Technology, and the School of Graduate Studies. Also, accredited degrees and professional development programs through distance learning and lifelong learning facilities are available.

Cunningham Memorial Library, named for the first librarian of the institution Arthur Cunningham, carries a wide collection of more than two million items, including 800,000 books and 4,500 periodical subscriptions.

In addition to academic programs and facilities, Indiana State University organizes many cultural, recreational, and social programs for students and the surrounding community. Adult education classes, musical performances, art exhibitions, radio and television programs, theatrical productions, and athletic events are among those activities.
