Vanguard University of Southern California is a comprehensive Christian university of Liberal Studies and Professional Studies, located in Costa Mesa, California, off the 55 Freeway at the Fair Drive exit.
Managed by the Southern California District of the Assemblies of God, it is committed to impart an educational experience that integrates faith, learning, and living, while preparing students for a lifetime of learning and service in a variety of careers and ministries.
Founded in 1920, it was initially known as Southern California College. Presently, Vanguard University is the largest Christian university in the Pentecostal tradition, west of the Rocky Mountains.
It is a member of both the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Vanguard University offers more than 30 majors and concentrations in a continuum of fields such as Anthropology, Business, Chemistry, Liberal Studies, and Music.
The programs of study are organized under three schools – the Undergraduate Major Degree Programs, School for Professional Studies Major Degree Programs, and the Graduate School Degrees.
The Center for Urban Studies, Lewis Wilson Institute, and the Institute for Leadership Studies are among the programs. Certificates are also available.
In addition, the university provides opportunities for off-campus study in government in Washington, D.C..
Located within easy access to Los Angeles, the university campus features a suburban setting, occupying about 40 acres of land.
Residence facilities are found off campus in Huntington Beach and Laguna Halls, Newport and Balboa Halls, and on campus in Catalina Hall, and Vanguard Center.
The campus safety factor is better assured through the Campus Safety Department, which is maintained to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for the perusal of educational goals. Also, on campus are the Career Center, Library, and Writing Center.
Athletic activities find a prominent position in the university life, as well. Vanguard University is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and is a charter member of the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).
