United Hospital, the largest hospital in the Twin Cities metro area, is located in St. Paul, Minnesota. A part of Allina Hospitals & Clinics - a non-profit network of hospitals - it plays a vital role in providing high-quality health care services using advanced medical technologies. United Hospital traces its roots back to 1855, when Reverend V. Van Ingen proposed the construction of Christ Church Orphan's Home and Hospital. The hospital moved to its first building in 1877 and was named St. Luke's Hospital. After five years of service, it was moved to Smith Avenue in St. Paul. In 1972, the hospital merged with Charles T. Miller Hospital to form the United Hospital. A new facility was added to share its services with the Children’s Hospital. Riverview Memorial Hospital joined United in 1979, and in the following year, the newly constructed United Hospital and Children's Health Care was dedicated.
