Robert de La Salle

René-Robert Cavelier was born on November 21, 1643, in Rouen, France. His family title was Sieur de la Salle, by which is generally known. He came to New France and became an explorer, traveling through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. He claimed the entire drainage of the Mississippi for the French crown.
