Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge

The 15,468-acre refuge is on the eastern edge of the Columbia Basin within the Channeled Scablands. It is an important breeding and nesting area for numerous species of birds and other wildlife. Tundra swans can be seen occasionally in spring.

A public use area includes a self-guided driving tour, trails, and a wheelchair accessible boardwalk which loops to the edge of Blackhorse Lake. The area was recovered from land on which farming was attempted in the 1890's and early 1900's.
