Sucia Island State Park |

Sucia in Spanish means "dirty" or in a nautical sense "foul". This word was chosen because the shore was deemed unclean and reefy.
There are marine fossil deposits at Fossil Bay.
The park features an underwater scuba park, over 6 miles of hiking trails, primitive camping, picnicking, clamming and crabbing. The island, 2-1/2 miles north of Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands, is accessible only by boat.
The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and covers about a quarter million acres.
