Mukilteo, named for the Suquamish Indian word meaning "good camping ground," was the site of the Point Elliot Treaty of 1855. The document, signed by the leaders of 22 local tribes, relinquished land claims to white settlers.
The town, on the mainland, is connected by ferry with Clinton, on the south end of Whidbey Island. Mukilteo is in Snohomish County, south of Everett.
