Prospectors who settled on the west bank of the Pend Oreille River founded Metaline Falls in 1909. The town is just 10 minutes away from Canada.
Just east of town is the Salmo-Priest Wilderness. Metaline Falls is in Pend Oreille County.
The town has been named one of the 100 Best Small Art Towns in America.
