Long Beach Seashore

The Chinook Indian Nation fished for their salmon and razor clams as a necessity along with settlers that arrived after Lewis and Clark. They used horse seining, fish traps, gillnets, and fish wheels to bring in their catch. Today, however, fishing and clamming are recreational sports. The beach was also used as a highway. It was the main route for the stagecoach from Ilwaco to Oysterville. Today, beach driving, watching sunsets and storms, beachcombing and kite flying attract visitors to the beach.
