Kent Washington

Kent is a city in the middle of the Green River Valley in south King County. It is located halfway between Seattle and Tacoma on Highway 167.

Kent got its start as an agricultural area with hops as the first major crop, planted in 1878. This spurred Kent's growth in the early years. In 1888, nearly a million pounds of hops were harvested. In 1890, the year of its incorporation, Kent's population was 763. Truck farming commenced in 1917 and during the '20s, the town was noted as the world's lettuce capital.

Today Kent relies upon manufacturing, wholesale and transportation for its economy. The city attracts visitors with its summer concerts, Cornucopia Days, Canterbury Faire and Winterfest Parade. The Kent Arts Commission Gallery features the work of local and area visual artists on a monthly basis.

There also is a Kent, Connecticut.

Kent is part of the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA metro area.
