Black Diamond Washington |
Established over a hundred years ago, when it was found to yield a wealth of coal, Black Diamond still yields millions of tons of coal. Coal mining began in the area in the 1880's and a few years later the town was named for the Black Diamond Coal Company of California. Coal production continues to this day, with more coal anticipated than ever.
Located 35 miles southeast of Seattle, the town of Black Diamond is located near many parks and recreation areas, including the Green River Gorge Conservation Area, the Covington-Sawyer Wilderness, Flaming Geyser Recreation Area and the Kanaskat/Palmer Recreation Area. Black Diamond is also located nearby Mount Rainier National Park. Black Diamond is part of the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA metro area.
