Battle Ground Washington

In 1855 a group of American Indians being detained nearby escaped and their chief was accidentally killed. A band of volunteer soldiers permitted the escapees to give their chief a traditional burial, and were later chided by their fellow soldiers for not waging a battle against the fugitives.

Although there never was a "battle ground," the name was nevertheless adopted by the town that was established in 1902. Although first platted in 1902 and 1903, the town was not incorporated until 1951.

Conveniently located only 15 minutes from either I-5 or I-205, Battle Ground residents have easy access to the Portland-Vancouver Metro Areas. Among the attractions are Battle Ground Lake State Park, the Lewis River (North and East Forks), and forest recreation areas. Enjoy skiing, fishing, wind-surfing, hiking, hunting, boating, golfing, or horseback riding.

Battle Ground is part of the Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-WA metro area.
