Chapman University

Chapman University is located at One University Drive, Orange, California. It was founded in 1861, as Hesperian College in Woodland, California. The college was opened at the very hour of Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration as the 16th President of the United States of America. Under the powerful leadership of philanthropist Charles C. Chapman, the college became California Christian College, in 1920. In honor of Mr. Chapman, the college was renamed as Chapman College in 1934. In 1954, the college shifted to its present campus in the city of Orange. After acquiring the status of a four-year, degree granting university in 1991, the institution became Chapman University. The board of trustees further strengthened the university’s commitment to international education by providing an innovative undergraduate curriculum and a wide range of graduate programs. As the university’s roots are firmly grounded in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the programs offered by the university concentrate on the ethical, spiritual, physical, and intellectual facets of an individual. The university is the largest cosmopolitan, private institution of higher education in Orange County. The university has eight schools and colleges, including a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Other centers are the Wilkinson College of Letters and Sciences, the Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics, School of Communication Arts, School of Education, School of Music, and the main campus at University College. In addition, it has more than 10 academic and research centers. The academic structure of the university offers both liberal arts education and professional studies. It has 47 majors in the undergraduate category with more than 70 areas of study including Business Administration and Psychology. More han 25 programs are offered in the graduate section of the university with more than 30 areas of study.
