Drexel University

Drexel University is situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and aims to provide educational opportunities in the “practical arts and sciences" for men and women from all backgrounds.

Drexel University is a pioneer in cooperative education and provides a curriculum with alternating periods of academic and professional work.

Drexel University was originally founded in 1891, as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry, by Anthony J. Drexel - a noted financier and philanthropist.

The institute was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936, and gained university status in 1970, becoming the Drexel University.

Drexel University is organized into eight colleges and three schools. They include Arts and Sciences; Drexel University College of Medicine; LeBow College of Business, Information Science, and Technology; Media Arts & Design; Nursing and Health Professions; Engineering; and Goodwin College of Evening and Professional Studies.

The schools include Science and Health Systems, Biomedical Engineering, Education, and Public Health.

The university offers 62 bachelor's programs, 63 master's programs, 35 doctoral programs, and a doctor of medicine program, and enrolls more than 16,000 students from 100 nations.

Research facilities include a computer-aided design engineering center, an electronic music laboratory, and a robotics laboratory.

Drexel University is famous for its co-op program, known as the "The Ultimate Internship". Under this program a student in Drexel's five year co-op program completes a bachelor's degree in five years in which he/she will acquire 18 months of on-the-job experience.

in July 2002, Drexel was officially united with the former MCP Hahnemann University to become the Drexel College of Medicine.
