Weddle Bridge

Weddle Bridge Sweet Home, Oregon (Bridges) image

Many Linn County residents believed the Weddle Bridge was lost forever when it was yanked apart by workers in October 1987. The covered bridge has spanned Thomas Creek for over 50 years, and since 1980, it was by-passed from traffic when Linn County built a concrete span just a few hundred feet downstream. The old bridge was left to provide access to only a few interested pedestrians, and Linn County commissioners decided to dismantle the span. Only the vital wooden trusses were saved.

In 1989, a group was formed to rebuild the Weddle span across Ames Creek.

The covered bridge will be the highlight of logging museum and sawmill at Sankey Park to bridge a mill pond.
