Tillamook Oregon |

This Tillamook County community is located north of Lincoln City, between Beaver and Garibaldi along Highway 101. The city of Portland is about 1 1/2 hours away to the east along Hwy 6.
Tillamook's lush grasses, nurtured by up to 72 inches of rain a year, sustain the herds that compose Oregon's dairy industry. Much of the county's annual milk production of 25 million gallons is made into natural cheddar cheese.
Tillamook is situated at the shores of Tillamook Bay and the Pacific Ocean, which in turn provides a major recreation center; crabbing, fishing hiking, boating, hang-gliding, and a variety of other Outdoor Activities are only a short drive away. The town also sponsors the Dairy Festival and Rodeo in late June.
The Tillamook airbase for blimps was put in commission December 1, 1942, with the name U.S. Naval Air Station, Tillamook, Oregon. It was closed after World War II, but the two immense, wood-framed hangars were prominent landmarks. One hangar was destroyed by fire in 1992.
