South Willamette Valley Region |
The southern segment of the large Willamette Valley Wine Region is bordered to the north by Salem, to the south by the Calapooya Mountains (south of Eugene), to the east by the Cascade Mountain foothills, and to the west by Oregon's Coast Range. The south valley includes the communities from Monmouth to Cottage Grove, including the Counties of Linn, Benton, and Lane.
Pinot Noir has been the most popular grape variety in the Willamette Valley, however, other varieties also grow well in the valley which include Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, and even Müller-Thurgau. To a lesser extent, warm-weather varietals, such as Marechal Foch, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, have been known to do well only in the South Willamette Valley Region and regions south of this area.
