Shore Acres State ParkThe Legacy of Pioneer Lumberman Louis Simpson |
Shore Acres was where Louis Simpson, the founder of North Bend, built both his mansions. The first was destroyed by fire. The second was pulled down by the State of Oregon after WW II to save the cost of maintaining it.
Simpson's famous gardens are preserved within the park and are available for viewing during park hours. During the holiday season, the garden comes alive with over a quarter of a million lights and refreshments in the Gardener's Cottage.
Simpson Cove is a short walk south from the gardens. Most of the garden is wheelchair accessible.
This is one of three state parks southwest of [charlesto], the others being Cape Arago State Park and Sunset Bay State Park.
Quality experiences await visitors to more than 200 state parks managed for the public by the Oregon State Parks.
