Shedd came into being when the railroad bypassed the nearby town of Boston by a mile. The residents of Boston picked up and moved their town to the new townsite in 1871. It is located 8 miles south of Albany in Linn County.
Shedd is in the middle of the grass-seed growing region of Linn County.
