Philomath Oregon

Philomath, Oregon (Cities) image This community is located in Benton County west of Albany, between Corvallis and Blodgett along US Highway 20 on the banks of the Marys River. Nearby in Philomath is Marys Peak (within the Siuslaw National Forest to the west), a fish hatchery to the southwest, McDonald State Forest to the north and the William L. Finley Natl. Wildlife Refuge to the south.

This town is derived from two Greek words meaning "lover of learning," and was named after Philomath College, started in 1867. The town is the home of the Benton County Historical Museum.

During the second week of July, Philomath celebrates its Frolic and Rodeo Festival, a tradition that began in 1916.
