Pioneer Church |
The quaint little white church which stands on the southwest corner of Baker Cabin Historical Site, was originally built in nearby Upper Logan in 1895 by German immigrants.
This German Methodist Church served the families east of Oregon City, and services were conducted in German. Use of the Church began to decline during World War I and the congregation disbanded during the early 1920's.
The building was acquired by the Old Timers' Association of Oregon (OTA) in 1967 and moved to its present site for present site for preservation. In 1970, the Baker bridge Pioneer Church committee rehabilitated the building, returning it to the apearance of a typical turn-of-the-century church.
In 1986 and 1987 the church received new paint, anrefinished floors and wainscoting. Future plans call for the restoration of the plantings to more closely represent a period landscape.
Availabe for rental, the church will seat 80 people and is used for weddings, renewal of vows and more.
