Mount Hood Railroad

Mount Hood Railroad Hood River, Oregon (Trains) image Built in 1906, the railroad takes you alongside Hood River (The River) and up the mountain.

Switch back in time as the locomotive unleashes its energy and actually pushes the train for the first 3 miles to more easily negotiate the steady 3 percent grade.

From one of the few remaining railroad switchbacks in the U.S., the train continues its steep ascent up the magnificent Mount Hood Valley. The route offers unparalleled views of the Cascades, including Mount Hood (elevation 11,235') and Mt Adams (12,237') on the Washington side of the Columbia.

All excursions depart and return to the Mt Hood Railroad Depot in Hood River, conveniently located on the south side of Interstate 84, only 63 miles east of Portland.

Reservations recommended.

A variety of adventures with Trains await the railroad enthusiast in Oregon.
