Mt. Jefferson Loop

Oregon Cascades Birding Trail

The Mt. Jefferson Birding Loop of the Oregon Cascades Birding Trail is in the Willamette National Forest in Central Oregon. This scenic drive features both wet and dry type forest environments.

Highways on this loop include Highway 97, Highway 126, Highway 20, Highway 22, Highway 26 and US Forest Service Road 46. This large driving loop borders the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Indian Reservation on the east and the Cascade Mountains on the west.

To begin from Salem, head out northeast on Road 213 to Silverton. Go southeast on Road 214. The Mt. Jefferson Loop begins at Silver Falls State Park.

Starting from Portland, go southeast on Highway 26 to the junction with US Forest Service Road #46. Either continue on Highway 26, or turn south on FS-46 which connects with Highway 22.

The loop may also be approached from the south on Highway 126 or approach from the southeast corner of the loop at Redmond.
