Lyons Oregon |
Lyons is a small town nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and located in Linn County northeast of Albany along Hwy 226, on the banks of the North Santiam River (well known for its fishing and white water recreational activities).
Lyons was first established as a result of the projected building of the Corvallis and Eastern Railway. Its continued existence was the result of the timber industry. In 1880, Captain James C. Lyons and Henry Lyons, two Irish brothers, founded Lyons in this scenic North Santiam Canyon, 23 miles east of Salem. Other settlers soon followed from Scotland, Kansas and the Plains. Lyons incorporated in 1958.
Mari-Linn Grade School, the Library, the Santiam Valley Grange, various churches, clubs and retail businesses are all vital parts of this community.
There is also a Lyons, Kansas.
