The Lookout Point and Dexter Lakes project, 22 miles SE of Eugene on the middle fork of the Willamette River, consists of two dams and two lakes, (Reserviours)--Lookout Point and Dexter. Both dams are earth-and-gravel fill dams with concrete gated spillways. The project was completed in 1954 at a cost of $88.2 million.
Lookout Point Dam, the principal facility, has three generating units capable of producing 40 megawatts each. Dexter Dam is a reregulating project located downstream and is used to control water releases from Lookout Point.
Both lakes are popular recreation areas and offer year-round fishing and seaonal waterskiing, sailing, swimming, picnicking and hunting. There are two campgrounds at Lookout Point Lake, none at Dexter. Much of the upstream portion of Lookout Point Lake is in the Willamette National Forest and is managed jointly by the US Forest Service and the Corps of Engineers.
