NOTE: There are other lakes in Oregon with the same names; Big Lava Lake, (Deschutes County) and Fish Lake, (Jackson County).
Lava Lake and Fish Lake are in the Willamette National Forest, in Linn County. Both of these lakes are near the junction of Highway 126 and Highway 20 in Linn County, within the jurisdiction of Sweet Home Ranger District. This area is second growth mixed-conifer forest in an old clear-cut area. Fish Lake, Elev. 3,200 ft. has 8 campsites for tent, trailer or RV up to 16 ft long. Fish lake usually dries up by mid-summer.
For Birders, there is a high diversity of species to watch for in this area, including Fox Sparrow, Dusky Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, MacGillivray's Warbler, White-crowned Sparrow, Pileated Woodpecker, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Western Bluebird and Red Crossbill. Nesting Sandhill Crane may be seen around the wetlands. Many additional species may be seen in the forested areas around the lake
