Japanese Garden

Japanese Garden Portland, Oregon (Gardens) image

The five gardens that make up the Japanese Garden are breathtaking any time of year. Banks of azaleas and beds of irises set the tone in spring, and the twisting branches of bare trees crate dramatic silhouettes against the sky in winter.

Rocks, stone lanterns, a pagoda, and the soothing sound of water complete the picture. The Flat Garden is a large round area of raked sand representing the sea, flanked by an authentic Japanese pavilion.

The Tea Garden surrounds the ceremonial teahouse, which was hand-built in Japan.

The Japanese Gardens are only a few yards away from the International Rose Test Gardens.

Gardens are open to the public throughout Oregon.
