Hood River (The River)

In the Columbia Gorge and Mt Hood Region, there is a river called Hood on the north slope of Mount Hood. The headwaters of the river emanate from Lost Lake, (Hood River County maintains a campground at Lost Lake). The mountain Hood and its river Hood are located in the Mount Hood National Forest, in Hood River County. On its course, the river Hood passes over Punchbowl Falls and through Hood River Valley which is on the Hood River Fruit Loop. The river Hood is a tributary to the Columbia River, at the city of Hood River.

At its mouth sits the community and port of Hood River. The mouth of the river is accessible at the entrance of the Hood River Expo Center. Go north on the gravel road a short distance and into the park.

The mouth of the river is included in the Mt. Hood Loop Trail as it is a migration stop for shorebirds and a nesting area for terns, gulls, sea-ducks, waterfowl, the Peregrine Falcon and the Bald Eagle.
