Heppner Oregon

Heppner, Oregon (Cities) image Heppner is located in Morrow County (of which is the county seat) southwest of Pendleton, between Lexington and Ruggs, situated at the Hwy 74 and Hwy 207 intersection. This community is also positioned along the banks of Willow Cr. This town was named in 1887 for storekeeper Henry Heppner. This gateway to the Blue Mountain Scenic Byway provides easy access to outdoor recreation. The population is 1500 with most of the residents employed in agriculture, timber, government, and manufacturing.

Nearby Willow Creek Lake supplies great fishing year-round (trout, bass, and crappie). Elk, deer and bear make up most of the big game animals for local hunters. Pheasant, chukar, Hungarian partridge, dove, turkey, and quail are favorite area game birds. Numerous trails in the Umatilla National Forest provide plenty of opportunities for adventure. Annual events include a St. Patrick's Day Celebration and the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo.
