Fremont National Forest

The Fremont National Forest is located in the high-elevation lava tablelands of south-central Oregon, primarily in sparsely settled Lake County. The climate varies greatly and the Forest is home to a wide variety of forest species.

The forest was named for John C. Fremont, an early transcontinental explorer known as "The Pathfinder", and who later became a senator and presidential candidate.

Recreation opportunities include fishing, hunting, backpacking, cross-country and alpine skiing, camping and driving for pleasure.

There are many fairly easy places to hike and backpack, and the views sometimes extend for hundreds of miles. The two National Recreation Trails in the Forest are Crane Mountain and Fremont.
