Flippin Castle"A man's home is his castle, and so I built mine to look like one" said Tom Flippin. |

Planning a short trip and wish you knew interesting things to see?
The National Historic Site, The Flippin House, is one. Built high on a hill above the little town of Clatskanie, on Highway 30 just 60 miles from Portland and 35 miles from Astoria.
It was built by Thomas J. Flippin, early day "gypo" logger and sawmill owner. His family lived in sawmill shacks, crude houses built of rough boards, carrying water and wood. The Flippins prospered and before long commissioned Markwell & Sons to build the Castle. It was lovingly restored 81 years later under its fifth owner in a manner as near as possible to its original state.
The senior citizens have purchased it and want to preserve the beauty of this old home for the future generations and to bring back memories to the oldster.
