Fall Mountain Lookout

Comments: This is a pretty plush lookout, with an electric fridge, stove, heater, toaster. It shares the hilltop with a microwave tower, so it's not completely silent (you can hear something running in the microwave tower outbuilding). Excellent stargazing. Daytime views are OK, with the Strawberry Mtn Wilderness Area to the west (behind the microwave towers), although much of the surrounding area has been deforested. Hiking in the immediate areas requires the dodging of cow pies, as this area is used to graze cattle. As far as wildlife, we saw some deer and chipmunks. Lots of birds could be heard, but they stayed pretty well hidden. We saw vultures and hawks soaring, as well as Stellar's jays and chickadees in the trees, but that's all we actually saw. This seems to be a destination for kids looking for a good party spot, as we had a few late night visitors who drove up and left immediately upon spying our car. This is by no means getting away from it all, but it's still pretty darn sweet.
