Dexter is located in Lane County, along Hwy 58 between Eugene and Oakridge. Also situated along the banks of the Middle Fork Willamette River and Dexter Reseroir.
The Lost Valley Intentional Community is a popular attraction within the Dexter area.
Originally called Butte Disappointment, it was renamed Dexter in 1875, to commemorate the "Dexter" brand cookstove of the first postmaster.
