Devils Half Acre Meadow

On the Mt. Hood Loop Trail, a part of the Oregon Cascades Birding Trail and on the historic Barlow Road.

NOTE: 4-WHEEL DRIVE HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLES RECCOMMENDED!

Elevation: 3,500 feet. Located in the Mount Hood National Forest, Barlow Ranger District. A beautiful meadow offering a fine view of Mount Hood on US Forest Service Road 3530.

Access is from Government Camp, to the junction at Hwy-35. Go right, (southeast), 4.5 miles on U.S. Hwy-26 to Forest Service Road 3530. Go southeast 1 mile to the campground

Nearby hiking trails include the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Birders will enjoy Fall migrant songbirds including Warblers, like MacGillivray's, Wilson's, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped. Lincoln Sparrow and Hammond's Fly-Catcher are common nesters.

Some historians believe that this is the site of Fort Deposit, the cabin in which two members of the Barlow/Palmer groups spent the winter of 1845-1846 during the construction of the Barlow Road.
