Creswell Oregon

This Lane County community lies south of Eugene along Interstate 5 and old Highway 99, about halfway to Cottage Grove, near the Coast Fork of the Willamette River. Historically, the local economy has depended on forest products, but there are many recreational opportunities in the area.

For centuries Calapooia Indians gathered their dietary staple, camas bulbs from Camas Swale, around 1800 fur trappers began camping in the area. Permanent European settlement began around 1850. Creswell was named after John Creswell (Port Deposit, MD birthplace), U.S. Postmaster general in 1873 by Ben Holladay of OCR railroad, incorporated 1909. Until the mid 1970's Creswell was primarily a wood products center, today it is much more diversified.

There is also a Creswell, North Carolina.

Creswell is part of the Eugene-Springfield, Oregon metro area.
