Cougar Creek Trail #835 |
This 8.2 mile in the Ochoco National Forest is a reconstruction of a historic pack trail that was used from 1915 to 1922. The first mile of the trail is along an old road and through timber, and the final four miles are on a well preserved, scenic historic route with excellent views.
There are two access points for the Cougar Creek Trail. From Prineville, go east 27 miles on US Highway 26 just past Ochoco Divide. Turn left on Forest Road #650. Park just off the highway in the gravel pit and hike the old road. OR from Prineville, go east 25 miles on US Highway 26. Turn left on Forest Road #27, and go one mile. Take a right turn on Forest Road #2730. Go 6.5 miles, then right turn on Forest Road #2735. Proceed 1.5 miles to trailhead.
