Coquille River Lighthouse |
Commissioned in 1896 to guide mariners across the dangerous bar at the mouth of the Coquille River, the lighthouse now stands in Bullards Beach State Park. It was decommissioned in 1939 following improvements to the river channel and other navigational aids.
It was restored in 1979 as an interpretive center. It is open year-round during daylight hours with tours to the tower watch room guided by park staff upon request. The lighthouse stands in a highly rated wildlife viewing area.
A web site has been established for the lighthouse restoration project.
