Coos Bay Oregon |

Coos Bay is located in Coos County along U.S. Highway 101, between Reedsport and Bandon. The Coos River forms a bay, also called Coos Bay, which sometimes leads to confusion. Nearby North Bend is the Coos Bay's sister city, which leads to the quaint fishing village of Charleston.
The busy port of Coos Bay was founded in 1854 by J.C. Tolman of the Coos Bay Company. The town, originally named Marshfield after Tolman's hometown in Massachusetts, was renamed by referendum in 1944.
Today Coos Bay, population 15,380, is one of the world's largest forest products ports. Fishing, canning and tourism also are important industries. Local points of interest include the Coos Art Museum, Golden & Silver Falls State Natural Area, Sunset Bay State Park andShore Acres State Park. Surfing (Basindorf Beach), hunting, fishing and hiking are all favorites for the Coos Bay area.
