A R Bowman Memorial MuseumOperated by the Crook County Historical Society |
This museum holds the artifacts of Crook County history, and was built in 1910 by the Crook County Bank. Stone blocks from a local quarry were used in it’s construction. Operated as a bank for 22 years, then as the business offices of A R Bowman. It is the only building in Crook County where the interior remains much as when constructed.
On the first floor you'll enter our Hall of History, which presents a chronological walk through Crook County's past. Here you'll see the bank's original teller's cages complete with beautiful marble counters and you'll marvel at the elegant woodwork, all from the days of when Bowman Museum's building served as a prestigious local bank. In fact, the old safe still guards many old ledgers and other records.
Bowman Museum's indoor exhibit gallery features a wide range of displays detailing Crook County history including the City of Prineville Railroad, the ups and downs of the timber industry, as well as an impressive military exhibit.
Along with these major exhibits many smaller exhibits tantalize visitors with historically accurate depictions of pioneer life and local history.
