Baker Cabin

Unlike most farmers, who first built a log cabin and then cleared their land to build a frame house, Mr. Baker was a quarry man, a mason, who selected his homestead because of the nearby salt quarry. He immediately went to work in his quarry, neglecting to build his wife, Jane Hatton Baker, a cabin. Neighbors finally built her this cabin.

Constructed in 1856, the Baker Cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only cantilevered log house in Oregon. Located near Carver, the site also include a historic pioneer church.
