Auburn |
Auburn came to life along Blue Canyon Creek in Eastern Oregon, around April of 1862. There is a sign erected in 1941 that designates the site where the town of Auburn once stood. It grew to a population of 6,000 and was the first county seat of Baker County.
History says Auburn was the site of the first gold rush into Eastern Oregon. It was not to last, for in 1864 the town's importance began a steep decline from which it would not recover. In 1868, the county seat was moved to the town of Baker City less than 20 miles from Auburn. There are few remnants remaining today that give evidence of the town's existence.
Auburn is located a few miles southwest of Baker City off of highway 7.
