White Plains National Battlefield Site

From 1776, when Washington and his troops retreated through Westchester after their defeat on Long Island, until 1783, when the British were finally expelled, the county was a battleground. After the Battle of White Plains in October 1776, Westchest er became the war. This site has 3 monuments that mark Washington's stance during the battle, one at Chatterton Hill, and 2 on Battle Avenue. The famous battle was waged October 28, 1776.
