Thousand Islands

A French explorer called this region `Thousand Islands` although the islands number more than 1,700. Some of these islands in the St. Lawerence River are mere points of rocks and others are village size, but most can accommodate only a home or summer camp. Numerous stone castles and summer homes dot the islands, and many historical markers commemorate the arrival of the Loyalists to British North America.
