Sackets Harbor New York |
Sackets Harbor is located in Jefferson County 10 miles SW of Watertown on Lake Ontario between Henderson Harbor and Dexter along Highway 3 near Long Point State Park in the Northern Region of the state. Sackets Harbor is a resort town on eastern Lake Ontario.
It was named after Augustus Sacket a New York City lawyer who settled here. Sackets Harbor was a site of 1812 battle in which American farmers fought back British warships. Construction of the "Ontario" here in 1816 opened steamboat commerce with Canada.
