Raquette Lake Navigation Company

The modern W.W. Durant, with its elegant Turn-of-the-Century decor, sails on Raquette Lake, the largest natural lake in the Adirondacks, the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi River. The W.W. Durant captures the ambience of an opulent by-gone era Mark Twain dubbed The Gilded Age, surrounding one with wainscoting, stained and etched glass, gleaming brass, rich carpeting and polished oak while at the same time offering the convenience and comfort of modern amenities. Captain Pohl lets the Durant freeze in the ice and opens the doors for winter business as soon as there are12 inches of ice. You can drive, walk, ski or snowmobile on the 1/4 mile packed trail from the village to reach the boat. Some even fly in and land on sk iis! At night the boat is illumined by 8000 tiny white lights. It's an oasis of light for anyone snowmobiling across the ice in the black of night.
