Owego is located in Tioga County 26 miles west of Binghamton between Tioga Center and Campville along Highway 96 on the banks of the Catatonk River near the Pennslyvania state line. Owego is part of the Binghamton, New York metro area.
Owego's name derives from Iroquoian for "where valley widens". Well-known residents have included: Nathaniel Parker Willis, writer.
