Opus 40

Opus 40 is the sculpture which took Harvey Fite 37 years to build. It was made of the rubble which Fite cleared from the quarry in which he labored, built using the tools of his trade: hammers and chisels, drills and blasting powder and a huge ha nd-powered boom with a flat wooden tray for moving rocks. Upon his death at the age of 73, it was as finished as it would ever be. Also on the site where Opus 40 lies is a museum, built by Fite himself, in which the tools and artifacts of the quarry are preserved
