The lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in the State, authorized by the Second Congress, under President George Washington in 1792. Construction began in June and completed on November 5, 1796. This 100 foot tower has been part of Long Island's land and seascape since then and remains one of the oldest lighthouses still in operation. 137 steps to the top of the tower.
