Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester has served the communities of southern Westchester for over a century. In 1892, they began with four nurses and beds for eight patients in a yellow wooden house. Today, the Medical Center cares for over 80,000 people annually, from frail newborns in their Level II Nursery to elders in their extended care pavilion or geriatric inpatient unit. They have grown from 8 beds to 465, from 4 nurses to nearly 1,000 health care professionals and over 600 physicians. They have established expertise and Centers of Excellence in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Pediatrics, Laparoscopic Surgery, Services For People With Cancer and Geriatrics. Their Emergency Department, a designated Trauma Center, is one of the largest and busiest in the County, treating over 28,000 people each year.
