Its architectural brilliance, designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, is complemented by a park-like landscape and a collection of original decorative arts. Occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. The interior has ribbed and vaul ted ceilings, figured bosses, stained glass windows, panels, and facsimile dressed stone painted walls.
